Cleaning the Hat
Hats must not be washed or dry-cleaned. Unless stated otherwise, hats are not water-resistant. This means light drizzle or a little rain won’t damage the hat, but it is not a substitute for an umbrella.
For mechanical dirt—such as dust—the hat can be gently cleaned with a bristle brush and refreshed over mild steam (for example, above a steam iron or a boiling kettle, keeping a minimum distance of 30 cm). If the hat loses its shape, you can partially restore it by steaming and reshaping it to its original form, then letting it dry.
For small localized stains, clean the affected area with a damp cloth—gently rub, reshape to its original form, and let it dry.
Hat Storage
The optimal way to store a hat is on a plastic head form or placed brim-side up. This is especially important for hats with wide brims. Hats should be protected from dust, ideally stored in a box or wardrobe.
Sewn Products
Sewn hats must also not be washed, as the materials may shrink and the hat could become deformed. Stains can be cleaned with a damp cloth or sponge using common solvents with a small amount of water.
Knitted Products
Knitted hats must not be washed and should only be dry-cleaned, for example with tetrachloroethylene (perchloroethylene), preferably at a professional dry cleaner.
